Dispatches: Deception.

You hate racism and people with prejudice and you will do anything to see that they are brought to justice. However there is a line between an opinion and a racist or prejudiced attitude. A program entitled 'The Secret Policeman' once exposed disgusting attitudes of Police Officers at a force training school in Greater Manchester, towards the black community. You thank the reporter who exposed these problems, because they should have been exposed to the public and the Officers who made these comments and engaged in these actions were brought to justice and rightly so.

However you have recently been informed of a program that will air soon on Channel 4. In this program is not an undercover reporter on a mission to expose illegal acts, racism and prejudice without thought of personal gain but a disgruntled Officer with a grudge, on a mission to make a force look bad, in anyway she possibly can, sparing no punches, going as low and as petty as she can. You see the difference between the two, it's a big one.

Police Officers playing Cricket in the Station Car park!! How terrible, roll out the dog squad, the RIOT vans and CID!!

You're laughing now and rightly so.

I've heard a few rumblings about this but am not particularly worried. Do you think that the public obsession with these programs has anything to do with the joy of seeing the police who hand out speeding fines and put 10 year olds in court get their just deserts? Sometimes I feel it is.

A cycle of mistrust has arisen and we should engage more in the community to prevent it.
